Adult and Family Living (8610)

Description: Adult and Family Living is a comprehensive family and consumer science course designed to help prepare students for their roles as adult homemakers and wage earners.  Areas of instruction, activities, and practical application are in consumer education, nutrition, parenthood education, relationships, and management of resources.

Foundation For Living II (8712)

Grade Level:  10th and up

Prerequisite:  None

Description:

This is a comprehensive study designed with updated content areas of clothing and textiles for today, the developing preschool-age child, housing and family lifestyles, financial fitness in the home, human ecology, and food science.  Attention is also focused toward assisting students with understanding a career ladder and assuming leadership responsibilities.

Housing And Home Furnishings (8660)

Grade Level:  10th and up (1 semester)

Prerequisite:  None

Description: The purpose of the Housing and Home Furnishings class is to increase knowledge and develop skills in living space and its design, home selection and home finance, housing exteriors and interiors, selection and purchase of furnishings, and employment opportunities in the area of housing and home furnishings.

Foundation For Living I (8711)

Grade Level:  9th and up

Prerequisites:  None

Description: This is a comprehensive study intended to generate basic knowledge and skills in child development, clothing and textiles, consumer education, food and nutrition, housing and home furnishings, and personal and family relationships.  Attention is also focused toward assisting students in career study and participation in the family consumer sciences youth organization, Future Homemakers of America.

Parenting And Child Development (8670)

Grade Level:  10th and up (1 semester)

Prerequisite:  None

Description:

This in-depth study is designed to provide basic knowledge of child development as well as develop skills necessary to care for children and foster children's development to their full potential.  Attention is focused on the importance of effective parenting, ways children develop, child health, first aid, and nutrition; plus information and activities in guiding children's behavior and meeting the needs of special age groups.  Careers in child care are explored.
